INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE
INTRODUCTION
Educational institutions are in the best position
to inculcate a positive attitude towards
sustainable lifestyle habits in students during
their developing years. The practices and
lifestyle adopted during the young age will have
positive impact on their attitude and decisions
they make in their future regarding their career
and personal life. SDG 9 i.e. Industry Innovation
and Infrastructure have a major impact on every individual as well as the community in whole.
Innovation is the key need of the hour with respect
to progress of every country. Nitte (DU) provides
the platform for idea generation, creating ample
to innovate, incubate and become self-reliant.
The university is working in close collaboration
with Government of India by participating in its
flagship program of Atal Innovation Mission to
promote and create a culture of innovation and
entrepreneurship amongst students and faculty.
Administrative support:Nitte (DU) provides a conducive environment
to encourage research, innovation and
entrepreneurship that can translate into an
industry. We engage and instil entrepreneurial
mindset in young students. We also provide
the necessary support in their first step towards
entrepreneurship. The university support systems
to achieve the above-mentioned agenda is as
follows:
- DST-NUTEC: Nitte University Technology
Enabling Centre (DST NU-TEC) is one
among the 10 centres established at the
national level by Department of Science
and Technology (DST), Government of India.
DST has provided the support for setting
up state-of-art networking infrastructural facilities to the centre. The objective of TEC
will be to create an ecosystem for technology
development in the universities and provide
a platform to network researchers with
other institutes, national laboratories and
industries in the region and to address the
local needs through scientific intervention
for sustainable solutions.
- Institution Innovation Council: Nitte (DU)
has launched the Institution Innovation
Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Ministry
of Education, Government of India. IIC is
creating an ecosystem that will foster the
culture of innovation across all the constituent
colleges of Nitte (DU), from generating ideas,
to pre-incubation, incubation and graduating
from the incubator as successful start-ups.
- The Nitte Incubation Centre (supported
by NITI Aayog under the Atal Innovation
Mission): aims to accelerate the country’s
entrepreneurial vision by encouraging and
assisting innovative entrepreneurs through
valuable mentorship and access to investor
networks and by facilitating a host of other
services. Starting its operation on June
01, 2020, the centre has supported 70+
innovative start-ups in the areas of
1. Agriculture and allied activities
2. Health Science
3. Information and
Communication
Technologies
AIC-NITTE offers valuable in-house resources
and academic-industry collaborations to
develop applications and programs to realise
the dreams of young entrepreneurs to create a
viable business venture. The AIC Nitte is among
a few reputed incubators selected by the Govt.
of India to provide seed funding to innovative
start-ups under the Start-up India Seed Fund
Scheme. The centre has so far distributed seed
funds up to 200 lakhs to eligible start-ups.
The Centre supports the existing MSMEs in
the region through appropriate intervention
strategies like training, consultancy & mentoring,
business
development,
diversification,
technology transfer & upgradation. The Centre
has been approved as a technical agency by the
Ministry of MSME to develop food processing
clusters. AIC Nitte is the only Incubation Centre
in the country recognised by the Govt. as a Resource Centre for the formation and incubation
of Farmer Producer Companies under the Centre
Scheme of 10,000 FPOs. Currently, 10 farmer-
produce companies are formed and incubated
by AIC Nitte.
