The Department of Food Safety & Nutrition successfully conducted an industry-academia training program on Food Safety Supervision (FSS) and Practical Quality Assurance on 3rd March 2025. Mr. Yeshwanth Arun, an experienced FoSTaC (Food Safety Training & Certification) Trainer, Hygiene Rating Auditor and ISO 22000 FSMS professional, was the resource person and the trainer. Mr. Arun highlighted the significance of FoSTaC training for students aspiring to build careers in the food industry.

KSHEMA along with NUCSER and NIAHS conducted a workshop on One Health: Together for a safe future on 24th November, 2025 at 9:30 AM at Avishkar Hall, ABSMIDS Mangaluru with Dr.S.B.Barbuddhe as the chief guest.
The NSS Cell of NUCSER organized a five-day special camp from 13th to 17th June 2025 at DK Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School, Innoli, Ullal Taluk under the theme “Aatadinda Paata,” focusing on moral, scientific, and social responsibilities. Throughout the camp, students actively participated in a variety of talks, workshops, activities, and games designed to build character and awareness. Special emphasis was placed on nutritional awareness and child well-being through BMI assessments conducted among students. These screenings helped identify nutritional challenges and encouraged discussions on balanced diets, healthy eating habits, and the importance of food security. The findings indicated that nearly 48% of the students were undernourished, highlighting the urgent need for improved access to nutritious food and sustained awareness on child nutrition. Through these initiatives, the camp strongly contributed to addressing hunger-related concerns and promoting healthier growth and development among school children.

National Nutrition Week is an annual campaign organised by the Government of India to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition and promote healthy eating habits. The campaign aligns with the United Nations' goal for sustainable development, focus on diet that meets the overall nutrition needs. To spread this important message amongst the public, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Justice K S Hedge Charitable Hospital highlights the importance of nutrition, as well as speaks about the initiatives undertaken to tackle problems like malnutrition.
High Five for Fun: Spreading Care, Nutrition, and Joy Through Community ActionOn February 23, 2025, students and faculty from a Master of Public Health program organized “High Five for Fun” at a girls’ home in Bondel, Mangaluru, creating a meaningful day focused on care, nutrition awareness and overall well-being. The initiative began with visits to understand the children’s needs, followed by a ten-day fundraiser that mobilized over 180 contributors and raised Rs. 41,237.68 through small donations. The support was directed toward essential supplies and activities aimed at improving daily well-being.
At the girls’ home, the team combined distribution of essentials with engaging activities such as ‘Simon Says,’ ‘Name Catch,’ ‘Dumb Charades’ and ‘Memory Tray,’ encouraging joy, interaction and cognitive engagement. Caregivers highlighted those consistent visits and shared activities are as important as material support in nurturing confidence and growth among the children.
An interactive session on “Improved Varieties and Good Agricultural Practices for Sustainable Arecanut Gardens” was jointly organized by the SDG Cell, Nitte University, in association with NUCSER and the AIC Nitte Incubation Centre on 28 November 2025.
