Education is an empowering right, which allows children and adults to lift out of poverty and participate fully in society. Education is a gateway to better opportunities and freedoms. Sustainable Development Goal 4: Ensuring Inclusive, Equitable, and Quality Education and the Promotion of Lifelong Learning Opportunities for All, recognizes several impediments to universal education and attempts to address them through targets to increase the number of scholarships to students in developing nations and create educational facilities that are gender sensitive and disabilityinclusive.

LIBRARY FACILITIES UTILIZATION

The Libraries of the Nitte Deemed to be University act as the hub of learning resources for the constituent colleges. In total, 51,000 sq ft of carpet area is available for library services. Qualified librarians and adequate staff are appointed to ensure smooth functioning. The library services acquire, organize, and provide access to resources in all formats necessary to support the education mission of the University. The books and journals collection supports all programs taught and research activities carried out at the University. An Integrated Library Management System provides efficient tracking and utilization of resources.

Access to the general public

The University is deeply committed to its social responsibilities. In line with this, the University offers its library resources for general public use, particularly to the student community in the neighborhood. The “Policy for access of library resources to users from outside NitteDU” outlines the terms of use of the library resources by the general public.









PROVISION FOR UTILIZATION OF NITTE (DU) RESEARCH LABS

The Central Research Laboratory (CRL) established in 2007 serves as a central research support system to the constituent colleges of Nitte DU. The CRL has up-to-the-minute facilities to support high-quality research in interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary areas to meet contemporary challenges and has collaborations with international and national organizations. It is also aided by a well-maintained state-of-theart animal house facility. The Centre encourages and assists UG & PG students (both internal & external) in taking up consultancies and research projects.NUCSER labs provide world-class facilities in laboratories and training is imparted to cultivate a culture for research. The Laboratory including Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, and Computer facilities are equipped to handle Biomedical Science and Food Safety courses. With a firm background, students would be able to conduct research, design, develop, and evaluate their ability to follow the principles of ethical research.





FREE SCHOOL BUS FACILITIES

The buses of the Nitte (DU) fleet are offered as school buses to local schools free of cost. In addition, Nitte (DU) also provides free bus facilities on a regular basis to several schools for camps, tours, social awareness programs, etc.

The University’s playground is offered free of cost for use by neighboring schools for annual sports events.

NITTE (DU) CREATING HEALTH AWARENESS: A SOCIAL MEDIA ENABLED COLLABORATION

Faculties from Nitte DU have participated in Television and Radio shows,educating the general public in local languages regarding health care and hygiene. They are also actively involved in writing newspaper articles about health.





NITTE (DU) EARNING ACCOLADES AND AWARDS GLOBALLY

Nitte (Deemed to be University) is one among eight Indian Universities in the Top 300 of the world’s Universities in the 2022 edition of Times Higher Education Impact Rankings released on 27th April 2022. The university is ranked 92nd in the category of Good Health and Well Being. It is placed in the Top 200 in the categories of Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water, and sanitation. AB Shetty Dental College has secured 3rd rank among private colleges in India. NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences has received the 45th rank by NIRF ranking.





Nitte (DU) Implementation of NEP 2020

RELEASE OF NEP 2020 IMPLEMENTATION PLAN MANUAL: The road map for Nitte (DU) has been released. The manual by & for the University has covered the fine aspects in detail with robust participation of Board of Studies members (internal) from constituent colleges. The Chief guest Dr S Vaidhya Subramaniam, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Sastra University, has given a splendid speech on higher education specific NEP 2020. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC): Conducted a workshop on “Curriculum Development under NEP-2020”. Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Director, Curriculum Development, Nitte (DU) was the resource person.





NITTE (DU) ACTIVITY HIGHLIGHTS IN LINE WITH SDG4 UNRAVELLING LEARNING AND PERFORMANCE PROGRAM FOR FACULTY OF NITTE (DU)

“Of all the life skills available to us, communication is perhaps the most empowering.” - Bret Morrison Nitte (Deemed to be University) focuses on empowering soft and life skills among its constituent intuitions to have a perfect worklife balance among staff. University implements enhancement of mentoring and teaching skills along with digital upgrading to accelerate the teaching methodologies. A variety of programs are organized by the university regarding the same.

  • The Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research (NUCSER), in association with the Staff Development Centre (SDC), Nitte DU, conducted a Faculty Development Program “Leadership and Competency Building” for the Faculty of the NUCSER.
  • The Staff Development Centre, Nitte DU conducted a Faculty Development Program on Basic Excel [Offline mode] for the faculty members of the constituent institutes of Nitte at NIA, Paneer Campus. Mr. Balaji N, Assistant Professor Grade II, NMAMIT, Nitte, facilitated the sessions. Training program on the Microsoft Excel Essentials for the non-teaching staff of NMAMIT, Nitte was conducted by the Staff Development Centre, Nitte DU at CAD/ CAM Lab, Second Floor, Ramanujam Block, Nitte. Dr. Jnaneshwar Pai Maroor, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Humanities, NMAMIT, Nitte was the facilitator of both programs
  • The Staff Development Centre, Nitte DU conducted the FDP on Teaching Methodologies and Presentation Skills for the teaching staff of NRAM Polytechnic, Nitte, and the Resource Person was Dr. Malini Hebbar.
  • Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, in collaboration with the Staff Development Centre, Nitte DU conducted an Offline Training Program on “Basics of First Aid Management & Disaster Plan” for the Non-teaching staff of Nitte DU constituent institutes. Mr. Ashwin Kumar, SERV Instructor was the resource person.
  • The HIC Training program for the paramedical staff of A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences was organized by the Infection control cell of ABSMIDS in association with the Staff Development Centre, Nitte DU, and the Dental Education Unit, ABSMIDS, in two batches
  • Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital collaborated with the Staff Development Center, Nitte (DU), to organize a training program on Infection Prevention Control, SOPs, and standards of NABH and Fire and safety. The program was for Nurses. Four offline Training Programs were conducted on “Customer Service” for the Non-teaching staff of Nitte DU constituent institutes, Dr. Sudhir M, Professor, Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management was the facilitator.
  • A three-day FDP on ‘Cyber Physical Systems’ was organized by the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and IQAC, in association with EAC, IEEE Mangalore Subsection & IEEE Student Branch of NMAMIT. Mr. Guruprasad S, Vice President & Global Director, Bosch Global Software Technologies Pvt Ltd. Bengaluru, inaugurated the program. Dr. Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal presided. On the first day of the program, Dr. Saritha Arun Kumar, EMEA Lead, Executive Security Advisor, IBM X-Force Command Center, provided insight into the challenges associated with cyber security systems through online mode.
  • Department of Information Science and Engineering in association with IQAC, NMAMIT had organized a six-day FDP on Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Deep Learning applications from 26th September to 1st October 2022, funded by Karnataka Science and Technology Academy
  • A workshop to provide hands-on training on Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for Qualitative Data collection was held for the teaching faculty of NUINS, other constituent colleges of Nitte DU, PG students, and PhD Scholars on 24 November 2022. Prof Dr Praveen Kumar Shetty, Director of R&D, Nitte DU, inaugurated the workshop and emphasized the need for qualitative data in generating information. Dr Sudhir Prabhu H, Professor & HOD Community Medicine, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore was the resource person.




  • 2. NITTE (DU) ON CONDUCTING EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING FOR ITS CONSTITUENT COLLEGES

Interactive meetings or educational sessions are designed to create a specialized result by different institutions of the university to achieve expertise and higher goals in their respective fields.

  • “KSHEMA ENT OSCE Workshop 2022”. Dr Vadisha Bhat, Professor, and HOD of ENT welcomed the delegates. Vice-Chancellor of Nitte DU Prof (Dr) Sathish Kumar Bhandary inaugurated the workshop. Prof (Dr) P.S. Prakash, Dean, KS Hegde Medical Academy SDG 4 2022 was the guest of honor. Five clinical cases were presented by residents from various medical colleges during the mock clinical examination.
  • The Department of Public Health, in association with the Department of Biostatistics, K S Hegde Medical Academy organized a two-day hands-on Workshop on ‘Statistical Analysis using R’ at the Medical Education Unit, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy. The workshop covered all basic parametric and nonparametric tests. The resource person of the workshop, Ms. Yashaswini, Assistant Professor of the Department of Statistics, excellently handled the sessions and made them very interactive.
  • The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a six-day workshop on Electric Vehicles “ShaktEVah”- An insight on Electric Vehicles, Latest trends, Research Prospects and Expo. The domain experts from premier institutes like IITs, NITs, and leading multinational industries were a part of this workshop as resource persons.
  • Finite Loop Club, NMAMIT, Nitte under Centre for Student Innovations (CFSI) – NMAMIT successfully conducted ‘Javascript Mastery’ – Hands-on JavaScript Workshop. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Shashank S Shetty who is an alumnus of NMAMIT and is currently working as a Senior Software Engineer at MakeMyTrip. This was followed by hands-on training by Mr. Shashank S. Shetty. He explained the basic web programming concepts, including HTML & CSS.
  • Department of Pediatric & Preventive Dentistry Workshop - “Conquering Challenges in Pediatric Dentistry with NOIS” The department conducted a hands-on workshop on “Conquering Challenges in Pediatric Dentistry with NOIS”. The resource person for the two-day workshop was Dr. Aum B Joshi, College of Dental Sciences, Amargadh, Gujarat.
  • Tulu Pada Panka- Geymeda Kala, a training workshop on Tulu songs, as a part of the Tulu Day celebration was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU at Chintana, 2nd floor, Justice K.S.Hegde Hospital.
  • A 2-Day Faculty Development Workshop on Problem-Based Learning was conducted by A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences. The resource persons of the workshop were Prof.(Dr). J. Sabarinathan, Director (Academics), VMRF Deemed University, Adjunct Professor, Penang International Dental College, Malaysia and Prof.(Dr). Maya Ramesh, Head of the Department of Oral Pathology, VMDSC.
  • A workshop on National Education Policy-2020 was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte in Shambhavi Seminar Hall, NMAMIT. Dr. Balaveera Reddy, Former Vice Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi delivered a detailed keynote lecture on ‘National Education Policy and current trends in the Field of Education and Job Market’.
  • The Institutional Committee against Substance Abuse (I-CASA), NUCSER, conducted capacity building for students on the topic “Cyber safety and substance abuse”. The resource person Mr. Steevan D’Souza, “You matter”, Mangalore, delivered an interactive lecture session for the BSc (1st, 2nd, and 3rd year) and MSc (1st and 2nd year) students, respectively, at the webinar, NUCSER. d.
  • A pre-conference workshop as part of the International Physiotherapy Conference “Nitte Physio Panacea 2022”. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Dr U.T Ifthikar Ali (President IAP, Karnataka Branch Dean, M.V Shetty Group of Colleges), and Guest of Honour, Dr. Sreedevi Sreerama Rajan (Physiotherapist Specialist King Hamad University Hospital, Bahrain) who is an Alumna of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy. Dr Dhanesh Kumar K.U., Principal, NIPT presided.
  • A two-day Workshop on Fashion Photography was conducted by well-known fashion photographer, Pritham Denzil D’souza.
  • The Department of Mechanical Engineering, NMAMIT organized a one-day workshop on ‘New and Renewable Sources of Energy’ on the occasion of the inauguration of the ‘Renewable Energy Club’ of the department on 22nd August 2022.
  • Dr. Nagesh, Chairperson & Professor, Industrial & Production Engineering, UBDT Davangere, and Dr. Sathyabhama Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, NITK Surathkal were the guests of honor for the function.
  • Dept. of Medicine, K. S. Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte DU conducted KSHEMA Medicine Update 2022.
  • A hands-on workshop on Bone Screws in Orthodontics was organized and was attended by more than 40 Alumni. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Nanda Kumar, Professor of Orthodontics at Chennai, Dr. Ganesh Somayaji, Consultant Orthodontist, UAE, and Prof. Dr Kuttappa who are our Alumni.
  • The Research Cell of the Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO) in collaboration with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), organized a one-day Workshop on Media Responsibility in Suicide Prevention, the world observes suicide prevention week. The theme for this year was, “Creating Hope through Action”.
  • The Dept. of Humanities conducted a oneday workshop on ‘Basic Communicative English’ for ASHA workers of the Community Health Centre (CHC), Nitte as a part of their outreach activity.
  • Aero Club Nitte organized a Basic Aeromodelling Workshop for the second and third-year B.E students of NMAMIT. The workshop aimed to introduce students to the basics of aerodynamics and build a nonpowered, hand-launched balsa glider.






  • VOCATIONAL SKILL ACTIVITIES SUPPORTING SDG 4

    “Give vocational training to the manually minded, and the children’s courts of the future will have less to do”. - Lewis E. Lawes NITTE DU encourages vocational education and training to allow individuals to gain practical knowledge, experience, and skills in their chosen careers.

  • K. S. Hegde Medical Academy is an approved training site (Provider course) for the ‘Advanced Trauma & Life Support (ATLS)’ course of the American College of Surgeons since January 2019. It is the only recognized site in this region. The Fourth course of ATLS was conducted. Dr. Rajashekar Mohan, Professor and Head, Department of General Surgery, All India Institute of Medical Science(AIIMS), Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh was the Course Director.
  • The Inaugural Program of 1st Certificate Course in Forensic Odontology started at A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences held at Avishkar Auditorium. Mr Hariram Shankar (IPS), Deputy Commissioner of Police (L & O), Mangalore City was the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Prashanth Shenoy, Hon. General Secretary, Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology & Head of the Department for Oral Medicine and Radiology, Yenepoya Dental College was the Guest of Honour.
  • The Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology conducted the 9th batch of the 4-day Certificate course on “Cone Beam Computed Tomography” under the guidance of Prof. (Dr) US Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean, and Dr. Vidya Ajila, Head, Dept. of OMR.
  • The Certificate courses conducted by A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences offer a foundation stone in the field of Implant Dentistry for aspiring professionals. The course is constructed to pave the way for refining the knowledge and skill of the participant with the latest concepts in the field of Implantology.
  • The TRAINING PROGRAMME IN PERIODONTAL MICROSURGERY aims to provide comprehensive theoretical and practical exposure to periodontal surgery procedures with a primary emphasis on developing clinical skills that encompass good microsurgical techniques.
  • ‘Apathbandhu’ is A training program for rural volunteers in first aid and emergency care.




  • LIFELONG EDUCATION OR LIFELONG LEARNING

    “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today” Lifelong learning is needed for continued competence and proficiency. Access to Continuing Medical & Dental Education is vital to enable oral health professionals to review and upgrade their clinical experience and competency. So the university supports various such activities in different professional fields for enlightening through knowledge and skill.

  • CME on “Updating laboratory skills” The SDG 4 2022 Department of Biochemistry and Medical Laboratory Technology jointly organized a continuing Medical Education on “Updating laboratory skills” at K. S. Hegde Auditorium, Deralakatte. Dr. Jayaprakash Shetty, Vice Dean and Dr. Amrit Mirajkar, Vice Dean (Academics), KSHEMA graced the occasion.
  • The Department of Pharmacy Practice organized a guest lecture on “Tuberculosis – Past, Present and Future at the Chintana Hall, Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte, Mangaluru. The guest speaker for the event was Dr Rajesh V, Associate Professor, Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, K. S. Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte DU, Mangaluru
  • The Publication Cell of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organized a Continuing Physiotherapy Education (CPE) Program titled ‘An Insight into Scientific Writing’, in Chintana Hall, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital.
  • World No Tobacco Day - 2022 To commemorate “World No Tobacco Day -2022”, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, in association with the District Health and Family Welfare Department, Chickamagalur and Sharada Dhanvantri Charitable Hospital, Sringeri under the aegis of the National Oral Health Program conducted a Free Dental Treatment Camp and Oral Cancer Screening Camp.
  • Quality Enhancement Program on ‘Research Excellence: Metrics and Analytics’ The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized a three-day quality enhancement program on ‘Research Excellence: Metrics and Analytics’ from 9th to 11th May 2022. Three levels of faculty members according to their research skills & abilities were given theory & handson training.
  • EXPRO-2022, the Annual Exhibition of Final Year UG Projects for the year 2022 was held. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. M Sathish Kumar, Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, M.I.T, Manipal. Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAM Institute of Technology presided over the function. Dr. M Sathish Kumar and Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar released the Expro-2022 abstract volume 20 during the event.
  • American Heart Association accredited course on Pediatric Advanced Life Support. The Department of Pediatrics, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, in association with the Indian Institute of Emergency Medical Services (IIEMS), Kottayam organized an American Heart Association-accredited course on Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
  • A special guest lecture on the topic ‘Advancement in Space Technology and its Applications’ was organized by NMAM Institute of Technology in association with Bellare GIS India Private Limited and NITK Science & Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park (NITK-STEP).
  • Dr. Murthy Remilla, Head, of Project Management, Human Space Flight Group, ISRO Bengaluru, and Dr. J. Krishna Kishore, Scientist G, ISRO Bengaluru were the resource persons for the program. Dr. Murthy spoke about the Indian Space Research Organisation.




  • INNOVATIONS IN TEACHING, LEARNING, AND ASSESSMENT

    The University’s Learning Management System NUeLearn has been expanded to offer course pages for all Undergraduate students from 1st April 2020. Students of postgraduate programs will also soon benefit from online learning resources. NUeLearn is a sophisticated webbased education platform that supports the development and delivery of e-learning content, communication and interaction with students, conduct of online assessments, and monitoring of student engagement. The platform which has been in use since 2015 for Blended Learning applications, is now being scaled up to provide remote access to learning resources for all students.

    Under the umbrella of 17 sustainable developmental goals, Nitte DU has initiated various activities to harmonize three core elements: economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection.
