Staff development centre of the university conducts program on regular basis to ensure enhanced competency among staff to train the students as per the current market trend. Curriculum is designed as per the revolutionary national education policy of the country. Structure of the curriculum enables holistic development, provide flexibility to choose subject of interest, encourages experimental learning to acquire skills. State of the art facility is created to impart skills to students. Soft skill, employability training is held for students to meet the job market demands. Demand surged for skilled workers, emphasizing upskilling. Higher education imparts advanced skills, mobility, and a global outlook. Universities enhance skills and foster better employment. Nitte (DU) excels in quality education, producing capable, ethical individuals for challenges. Empower youth through top-notch education and skills. Towards promoting SDG 8, various events, workshops, and initiatives organized by institutions under Nitte (Deemed to be University) in Mangaluru, India, from January to December 2024, focusing on education, research, innovation, and community engagement. Below is a concise summary:

- A total of 471 patents were filed by the faculty in the year and one copyright
✓ Research Support and Funding:
- Nitte (Deemed to be University) has granted around 72 research projects initiated by the faculty members and 96 student research projects in the year 2024 to add pace to the research culture of faculty and students in the university.
✓ Staff Development Cell, Nitte (DU)
- The staff development cell (SDC) of Nitte (DU) trains its staff to access new technologies and enhance their career which also help them to ensure dignity at their workplace. In the year 2024 SDC have conducted 67 Faculty Development Programs and 25 Capacity Building Programs for non-teaching staff. The cell conducted 12 staff induction training sessions and 3 sessions integrating faculty members and non-teaching staff for the year 2024.

- Shri Deepak Vohra, former Ambassador, spoke on "Vikasit Bharat at 2047" at Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management (Jan 29), emphasizing India’s human capital and eco-friendly civilization.

- Dr Ram Siddappa, Investment Manager, University of Leiden, The Netherlands visited DST Technology Enabling Center, Nite University on December 26, 2024 and delivered an expert lecture on “IP Protection, evaluation and Licensing strategies”. About 20 faculty and students attended the lecture.

- DST TEC organized an expert talk on “Bridging the know – do gap in tuberculosis care” at Chintana hall, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Trust, Deralakatte on 29 April 2024. Prof Madhukar Pai, Inaugural chair, Dept. of Global and Public health, McGill University, Canada was the invited guest speaker. During the talk Prof Madhukar explained the current status of TB in India and other developing countries, presented the statistics on mortality/morbidity rate, case fatality rate, & relapse rate. He suggested that more research should be done to find
novel specific markers or potential target candidates involved in the pathogenesis of Mycobacterium spp. that could aid in developing a vaccine. Around 70 participants including faculties and students from various departments and research
institutes attended the talk.

✓ Workshops and Training Programs:
- AI Skill Lab: In a ground-breaking initiative to cultivate AI expertise, Dell and Intel, in partnership with the Dept. of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, NMAM Institute of Technology, unveiled the AI Skill Lab and Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) for Intel AI Digital Readiness program on 17th January 2024.

- The Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence & Data Science in association with IQAC and Staff Development Center, Nitte DU organized a two-day workshop on 'Generative AI in Teaching, Learning & Research - Challenges Ahead' on 15th & 16th February, 2024. The workshop comprised of 6 technical sessions. The workshop had 30 participants including external participants from nearby colleges.
Healthcare and Nursing:
- A two-day workshop on Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) was organized for the V semester BSc. Nursing students on 5th & 6th December, 2024 at NU-MEDISIM, K S Hegde Hospital. The workshop provided comprehensive hands-on training sessions and focused on equipping students with essential skills & knowledge required to manage emergencies involving infants & children. Key training areas included the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and choking management.

A workshop titled ‘Empowering Nurses for Oncology Care’ sponsored by INTAS Pharmaceuticals and organized by the Project Vriddhi Industry-Academia Collaboration, NUINS jointly with the Dept. of Oncology, KS Hegde Hospital was held on 9th September 2024 at Avishkar, ABSMIDS.
- The Alumni Relations Cell of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organized a webinar focused on ‘Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)’ on 29th April 2024 through Google Meet platform. Dr. Anil Muragod, a distinguished alumnus from the 2004 MPT batch and currently a Professor at KLE Institute of Physiotherapy, Belgavi, shared his expertise on the topic.
- The Alumni Relations Cell at Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organized an enlightening webinar titled ‘Insight into Outcome Measures in Physiotherapy Practice’ on 25th May 2024 via Google Meet.

- Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organised a Workshop on “Entrepreneurship in Physiotherapy” with Mr. Akshay Agarwal, Founder Director of Training Gurukul, New Delhi as the Resource Person at K S Hegde Auditorium on 27th March 2024.
- Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organised a 2-day workshop on 'Clinical Application of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) Approach' on 12th & 13th April 2024 at K S Hegde Auditorium with Dr. Harpreet Singh Sachdev (PT), Senior Physiotherapist at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, as the speaker. The workshop had 45 participants.

- The Alumni Relations Cell of Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organised an inter-specialty case presentation at the Physiotherapy OPD of Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital on 29th April 2024.
Biomedical Science:
- Faculty and research scholars of NUCSER conducted 'A Day as a Scientist' initiative launched last year, focusing secondary and higher secondary students. Researchers in NUCSER engaged the students in showcasing the ongoing biomedical research at the institution and introduced them to concepts of handling microorganisms, basics of bio & nanotechnology, applications of biomedical science in environmental health, food technology, and handling non-mammalian animal models like zebrafish and drosophila. Students and teachers of Dr.MundkurRamanna Shetty Memorial English Medium High School, Thokur, Mangaluru (25th January 2024), Dr.NitteShankaraAdyanthaya Memorial PU College, Nanthoor, Mangaluru (27th January 2024) and Manipal School, Mangaluru (4th September 2024) visited NUCSER and took part in the program.

Dental Science:
- The Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences conducted a CDE and Professional Development Program on “Oral Mucosal Lesions: A Diagnostic Conundrum” on 20th February 2024. The resource person was Dr Keerthilatha Pai, CoE and Professor, Dept. of Dentistry, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences, Gangtok, Sikkim. round 206 delegates participated in the online program.
- The Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, ABSMIDS conducted a CDE Program on “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Dentomaxillofacial Imaging” on 26th July 2024. The resource person was Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Mallya, Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology, Division of Diagnostic & Surgical Sciences, School of Dentistry, University of California, Los Angeles. Around 149 delegates participated in the program.
- The Department of Orthodontics, ABSMIDS in association with the Mangalore Orthodontic Study Group conducted a Continuing Dental Education program on “Management of Vertical and Transverse Discrepancies” by Prof. (Dr). Jayesh Rahalkar, President, IOS at Avishkar Auditorium, ABSMIDS on 23rd May 2024. More than 100 delegates from different colleges participated in the workshop.
Cyber Security:
- A Faculty Development Program on ‘Recent Trends in Cyber Security: Tools and Techniques’ was organized by the Depts. of Cyber Security and Information Science & Engineering in association with IQAC and Nitte Engineering Education Unit (NEEU) between 8th & 10th July 2024. The FDP was inaugurated on 8th July 2024 by Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT, Nitte.

✓ Innovation and Entrepreneurship:
- Smart Village Innovation Launchpad (Apr 12) showcased 15 projects, with six winners recognized for rural impact.
The Smart Village Innovation Launchpad, an Innovative Project Exhibition was organized by the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) of Nitte (Deemed to be University) in collaboration with IIC, NMAM Institute of Technology on 12th April 2024 at Sadananda Open Air Auditorium, Nitte. Members of the IIC Student Club were presented with their Club ID cards, acknowledging their contributions to the event. A panel of judges meticulously evaluated the 15 selected projects, selecting six as winners, based on their potential to bring about a meaningful change in rural communities. The winners were felicitated with Certificates and cash prizes.

The AIC Nitte Incubation Centre has successfully established a cutting-edge Biotech Laboratory at Nitte, with funding support from NITI Aayog. - The NSS Unit and Theatre Club of NICO organized an outreach program to commemorate Human Rights Day at Government PU College, Kurnadu, Mudipu on 10th December 2024. The event aimed to educate and engage participants on the significance of human rights through interactive and creative activities.

✓ Summer School::
- The Summer School 2024 organised by Nitte Institute of Architecture, Crafted by Design – Cross-Pollinating Creativity, was a week-long immersive workshop held from 22nd to 27th July, fostering collaboration between designers and artisans from the Pambadha, Koraga, and Shettigar weaving communities. Facilitated by visual artist Kirti Chandak and textile artist MadhriJhaveri, the program emphasized hands-on learning, sustainable innovation, and the integration of traditional craft with contemporary design. It culminated in an exhibition and panel discussion, highlighting new pathways for meaningful, knowledge-driven collaboration.

NICO’s Chocolate Street
- Nitte Institute of Communication held the fifth edition of NICO’s Chocolate Street on May 11th & 12th at Fiza by Nexus, Pandeshwar. A student-run initiative, it is a looked forward event by both students and chocolatiers alike, as it provides local talent to exhibit and sell their home-made goodies.In the course of two days, 23 small businesses, chocolatiers and home bakers showcased their chocolate-based treats.
Model Exhibition
- Dr NSAM FGC hosted a Model Exhibition on 12th & 13th September 2024 for the PU students of the neighbouring colleges. Mr Ganapathi Bhat, Co-Founder of Creative PU College, Karkala inaugurated the event. 41 models were displayed (5 Science, 17 Computer Science (IoT) & 19 Commerce & Management). 1507 Pre-University students from 15 colleges attended the exhibition and also participated in the games & activities that were arranged.

- NUCSER hosted students from Komar University, Iraq, for a short-term internship (Jun 12-19): Fifteen students from Komar University of Science and Technology, Iraq participated in a short-term internship program at NUCSER from 12th to 19th June 2024.

- The five-day Hands-on Workshop on “Microbial Genomics and Metagenomics” (July 17 to 21) organised by Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research in association with Biokart India Pvt Ltd. was inaugurated on 17th July 2023 at the University Auditorium, Paneer.
- Aquatic sector contribution to WAAW 2024 celebration - a five-day Hands-On International Workshop (Novemebr 18 to 22) “Utilizing microbiome and genomic resources for understanding and mitigating AMR in the One Health contex” started on 18 November 2024, Mangalore, India, organized by Nitte University (FAO Reference Centre [RC] for AMR and Aquaculture Biosecurity) and ICAR in collaboration with other FAO RCs (UK/CEFAS, USA/MSU) plus Italy/IZSVe.

        Culinary Nexus 2024
- The Nitte Institute of Hospitality Services (NIHS) hosted Culinary Nexus 2024 on november 13th: Tasting Tomorrow, an engaging chefs’ conclave centered around the theme ‘Sustainable gastronomy & future foods’. This prestigious event brought together industry experts, renowned chefs, academics and aspiring culinary students to discuss and explore the future of food, with a focus on sustainability, innovation and ethical practices.

Infra Design Mahotsav
NIA presented the works of its students at a small exhibition, Infra Design Mahotsav at Hubli (19th July) and engaged with aspiring young minds interested in exploring their careers in architecture. A small design workshop was also conducted to engage with the students. Prof. Vinod Aranha, Director, NIA and Ar. Dean D’Cruz, Design Chair at NIA enlightened the students about the profession of Architecture.

Learning Disability Awareness Workshop
- As part of the observation of Learning Disability Awareness Week, a one-day workshop titled "From Awareness to Action: Empowering Educators to Support Students with Learning Disabilities" was conducted on 20th June 2024 by the Department of Psychiatry, KSHEMA, in collaboration with the Nitte Special Child Care Centre, ABSMIDS and SamagraShikshana Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada, GoK.
